The International Worker's Day is celebrated May 1st around the world. Although, the first worker's march took place in Chicago Illinois, it is unfortunately not celebrated in the United States. My group and I were able to attend the march that took place in San Salvador. The march went on for hours and it extended across the city. The pueblo (The People) of El Salvador took part in this march as a way to advocate for themselves and to make known the injustices that they face at their place of work. Many Salvadorans do not receive equitable pay for the work they do and many do not receive medical, dental or any kind of benefits. The working conditions is also an issue where safety among other matters is a concern. The unrighteous way that many are treated by their superiors is another area that was addressed in the march as certain individuals exclaimed. The march was also celebrated with banners, skits and marching bands as well as other types of music and vocal demonstrations. They know their rights and they are striving for them each year as many, adults and children alike, fill the streets of El Salvador. It was a privilege and an honor to have the opportunity to march with the Salvadoran people on such an important day.
